Fides.org, the Vatican news agency, reported at approx. 11AM that the body of Msgr. Joseph Serge Miot, Archbishop of Haiti had been found amidst the rubble of his residence. Authorities in Haiti are estimating that as many as 100,000 people could be dead, and as many as 3,000,000 people could be affected by the earthquake that has devastated this already poorest of the poor nation. Hospitals are destroyed or abandoned. People are stacking bodies in the street. The entire nation is in shock. Catholic Relief Services and Caritas International are already on their way to help.
Please pray, and please, if you can, help generously.
The staff of Caritas International were already in Haiti, and have been able to be contacted - information is on their blog, here:
Caritas International
Eternal rest, grant unto them, O Lord,
and let perpetual light shine upon them.
May the souls of the faithful departed
through the mercy of God rest in peace.
Amen.
God our Father,
Your power brings us to birth,
Your providence guides our lives,
and by Your command we return to dust.
Lord, those who die still live in Your presence,
their lives change but do not end.
I pray in hope for all the dead known to You alone.
In company with Christ,
Who died and now lives,
may they rejoice in Your kingdom,
where all our tears are wiped away.
Unite us together again in one family,
to sing Your praise forever and ever.
Amen.
O merciful God,
take pity on those souls
who have no particular friends and intercessors
to recommend them to Thee, who,
either through the negligence of those who are alive,
or through length of time are forgotten
by their friends and by all.
Spare them, O Lord,
and remember Thine own mercy,
when others forget to appeal to it.
Let not the souls which Thou hast created
be parted from thee, their Creator.
May the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.
Eternal Father, I offer You the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of Your dearly beloved Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ, in atonement for our sins and those of the whole world; for the sake of His sorrowful Passion, have mercy on us, and on the whole world.
